Director of Tumor Registry

Job Overview: The Director of Tumor Registry is responsible for providing leadership and ongoing management of tumor registry services at the comprehensive and integrated oncology program at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.

Essential Functions:

  • Operational Excellence – Ensures efficient operation of the population-based, regional tumor registry of the Louisiana Tumor Registry, covering sixteen Louisiana parishes. Contributes to the collaboration efforts of the LTR by overseeing the collection of complete and accurate cancer data to maintain membership status in the SEER program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Coordinates monthly electronic transmittal of cases with hospitals to facilitate a consistent and regular flow of cases into the central database. Maintains software updates to CNExT, SEER DMS, SEER Abs, and LTR coding requirements.
  • Quality Programs – Oversees operation of the Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accredited Cancer Programs for MBPCC locations in Baton Rouge, Covington, and Houma. Organizes and coordinates cancer program activities as related to CoC goals, studies, improvements, completion of annual gap analysis, subcommittee meetings, etc. Ensures compliance of standards as required by CoC to maintain accreditation status and is responsible for completion of the Survey Application Records (SAR).
  • Leadership – Works collaboratively with Human Resources to select, onboard, and train tumor registry team members of the highest quality; supervises and orients all staff to center policies and procedures. Promotes teamwork; motivates employees; inspires employee’s trust; addresses staff problems; regularly and effectively provide employees with feedback about job performance; recognizes employee contributions and accomplishments; constructively counsels employees when performance is below standards.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Master’s in Healthcare Administration/Management or Master’s in Business Administration strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in population-based tumor registry required as well as in tumor registry operations, including reports, quality control, CoC accreditation
  • Experience in abstracting, editing cancer data, and conducting cancer data studies
  • Supervisory/management experience in health systems organizations, policies and procedures, process improvement, data analysis, project management, and team building
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) licensure required

Cancer/Tumor Registrar

The Northeast Louisiana Cancer Institute of Monroe is accepting applications for a full-time Tumor Registrar.

Cancer Clinical Data Collection Assistant

Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) is seeking a qualified person for an entry-level position entitled Cancer Clinical Data Collection Assistant to perform the following tasks:

  • Screening disease indices, pathology reports, radiology reports, and other clinical documents in order to identify reportable cancer cases
  • Assist data process in the cancer registry database
  • Contact healthcare facilities to obtain needed information and update cancer records
